In Q3 2023, Apple maintained its lead in the tablet market with a 38% market share, despite a 7% YoY decline in worldwide tablet shipments to 33 million, as reported by Canalys. Apple shipped 12.5 million iPads, while Samsung secured the second position with a 19% market share and 6.2 million tablet shipments. Lenovo claimed the third spot, shipping 2.6 million tablets with an 8% market share.
Although the top three companies all experienced a YoY decline, Huawei and Xiaomi, ranking fourth and fifth, recorded growth. Huawei claimed a 5.7% market share, while Xiaomi held 4.9%. The market research firm noted that tablet shipments exhibited an 8% sequential increase, signaling a resurgence in the tablet market in anticipation of the holiday season.
As inventories stabilize, there is a gradual rise in sequential tablet shipments, setting a positive outlook for the forthcoming holiday season. The combination of sustained discounts and the introduction of new products is expected to steer the market toward year-on-year growth. According to Himani Mukka, a research manager at Canalys, changing user preferences, driven by productivity and content consumption needs, have led to a shift towards premium devices with larger screens.
