This week, Google’s November update for Pixel phones is addressing a crucial bug affecting users with multiple profiles. The update resolves occasional space-related or reboot loop problems on Pixel 6 and later devices running Android 14. The rollout begins today and extends into the next week.
Users with multiple accounts on Pixel devices encountered significant storage problems, rendering some devices unusable and restricting storage access for others. Android’s dual system partitions and backup systems proved ineffective in preventing this issue. Some users likened this bug to “ransomware” due to its data access restrictions.
While a factory reset is an option, many users opt against it. Google offered a quick-fix patch via Google Play System Updates, but it didn’t prevent users from experiencing the bug. Moreover, the app data backup system proved to be unreliable.
Recently, Google cautioned Pixel phone users on Android 14 against creating or logging into another user profile. With the latest update, it is likely safe to do so, but it’s recommended to back up your data first. The update also addresses issues related to display, graphics, NFC, system, user interface, and touch.
The security patch for Android smartphones in November 2023 has been released
Furthermore, Google has issued security patches for November 2023, divided into two tiers with updates dated November 1 and November 5.
The initial tier addresses high-severity problems, including vulnerabilities in the framework and system, along with a critical-severity issue impacting older Android versions 11, 12, and 13. The second tier, dated November 5, tackles vulnerabilities less likely to impact Pixel devices receiving the update. These encompass kernel vulnerabilities in older Android versions and vulnerabilities in components from MediaTek and Qualcomm.
