Google has implemented numerous new features in its ChromeOS. In a blog post, Google has provided a comprehensive overview of the new features included in the latest ChromeOS version (M116). Here’s what’s fresh for Chromebook users.
Enhanced search functionality within the Files app
The most recent ChromeOS update has enhanced the search capability within the Files app. Google explained, “You can now simultaneously search through your local files and Google Drive, while also customizing your search using the new search chips.”
Improved autocorrection functionality
Autocorrection is now activated by default for English in compatible apps, addressing typos, spelling, and other errors automatically. Google mentioned in the blog post that, “This update not only introduces autocorrection for physical keyboards but also improves the virtual keyboard’s autocorrect and other Assistive features’ performance.”
The setup process has become more adaptable
Google has enhanced the ChromeOS setup process to offer users greater flexibility and customization options, resulting in a more seamless onboarding experience. According to Google, these new customization options, such as touchpad scroll direction and display size, enable users to configure important settings early in the process, simplifying their transition to the new operating system.
Moreover, even returning users who are already acquainted with ChromeOS will appreciate the revamped setup wizard, which is now more streamlined and comprehensive. This ensures that most essential configurations are set up immediately upon signing into a new Chromebook.
Regarding RGB keyboards
The latest ChromeOS iteration introduces the capability to personalize the color of specific zones on the RGB keyboard. Google noted, “Users can still choose to apply a single backlight color.” This functionality is presently accessible on Chromebooks equipped with an RGB keyboard.
It’s important to note that this update will be gradually deployed in the coming days. Google advises that your device may not receive the update immediately.
