With Instagram Flipside, users can create posts that will be visible only to specific users
Instagram is testing a new feature called “Flipside,” which allows users to create private posts that are visible only to selected users or close friends. Initially available to a limited group, the Meta-owned photo and video-sharing platform plans to roll out this feature to a wider audience.
However, Instagram’s Head, Adam Mosseri, is uncertain about launching this feature, but the company is currently gauging people’s responses.
According to a report by The Standard, Flipside will enable users to create a separate space for these private posts, giving users control over who can or cannot view them. This space is designed for those who want to share more private or personal content exclusively with close friends and family.
It is common on Instagram for individuals and celebrities to have a separate account, often called a “finsta” or fake Insta, which is exclusively shared with close friends and family. With the upcoming “Flipside” feature, users can replicate this practice on their main accounts, enabling them to post pictures and videos visible only to selected users.
Furthermore, Instagram is reportedly planning to allow users to customize their profile picture, name, and bio for the Flipside profile, offering an experience akin to having a separate account. The Instagram Flipside feature is currently available to a limited number of users and is expected to be gradually rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
A similar feature has been available for Instagram Stories, enabling users to upload stories visible only to selected individuals designated as close friends, identifiable by a green circle. The upcoming Flipside feature is expected to offer similar functionality.
