Amid OpenAI’s upheaval, departing and potentially resigning employees are considering joining ousted CEO Sam Altman or seeking positions at tech giants, including Google. Rivals like Salesforce aim to attract talent from the company behind ChatGPT, and now Microsoft is extending job offers to potential departees.
In a post on X, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott declared that Microsoft will align the compensation for OpenAI employees contemplating leaving the company.
Addressing my colleagues at OpenAI: Acknowledging your petition and interest in possibly joining Sam Altman at Microsoft’s new AI Research Lab. Understand that if necessary, there is a position for you at Microsoft with compensation aligned, promoting our shared mission,” stated Scott.
The news follows Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s announcement that Sam Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman, who resigned shortly after Altman’s departure, are joining the tech giant. However, there has been a shift, with Nadella suggesting in an interview that Altman’s return to OpenAI is a possibility. Allegedly, negotiations are ongoing, with over 500 employees penning a letter to the board, urging the reinstatement of Altman.
Salesforce CEO’s job offer
Approximately one day ago, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff expressed in a statement on X that his company is open to hiring researchers from OpenAI. “Salesforce is committed to matching the full cash and equity OTE for any OpenAI researcher who has resigned, enabling them to promptly join our Salesforce Einstein Trusted AI research team led by Silvio Savarese,” mentioned Benioff in a post on X.
