Lady Gaga portrays Arthur Fleck’s psychiatrist, Harley Quinn, in the follow-up, while Fleck is incarcerated at Arkham Asylum
The first trailer for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, the musical follow-up to the highly successful ‘Joker’, which stars Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, has been released.
Phoenix returns to the role of Arthur Fleck in this follow-up, the main character who goes from being a failing comedian to the famous antagonist. Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Fleck’s psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, is portrayed by Lady Gaga. She eventually falls in love with Fleck and joins him as Harley Quinn, his accomplice.
The movie’s title comes to a mental illness in which two people have the same delusions.
According to Variety, “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be a musical as opposed to “Joker,” with 15 musical scenes planned. The majority of them will be renditions of already-written songs, such “That’s Entertainment” from Judy Garland’s iconic performance of the 1953 musical “The Band Waggon.” The 1965 song “What the World Needs Now Is Love” is used in the trailer.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” also stars Steve Coogan, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, and Joaquin Phoenix. Todd Phillips is the film’s director; he also directed “Joker.” At originally, Phillips claimed that the first movie was “always pitched as one movie,” but if Phoenix agreed to work on the project, he would be interested in doing more.
Phoenix has been fervent about the role ever after he won his first Oscar for playing Fleck. He expressed his belief in the “endless… possibilities of where we can go with the character” in an interview with Rolling Stone, saying, “I can’t stop thinking about it… if there’s something else we can do with Joker that might be interesting.”
“Joker” became the first R-rated movie to collect more than $1 billion at the box office upon its release in 2019, marking a significant milestone in cinema history. In addition, the movie won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, taking home two of the prizes.
On October 4th, “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be released in theatres.
