The Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads has now begun implementing a highly requested feature allowing users to delete their Threads account independently, without the necessity to delete their Instagram account. Up until now, Threads only permitted users to delete their profiles when opting to delete their Instagram account, owing to the close integration between Instagram and Threads, which extended beyond profiles, profile icons, and followers.
The rollout of this feature is underway. If you wish to delete your Threads account without affecting your Instagram account, follow these steps:
Steps to delete or deactivate your Threads account independently of Instagram:
Steps
- Begin by downloading and installing the latest version of the Threads app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- Open the Threads app and navigate to Settings.
- Locate the new option labeled “Delete or Deactivate Profile.”
You will be directed to a new page presenting “Deactivate or Delete” options, offering details about deactivating and deleting your Threads account. Here, you’ll find two choices: Deactivate account for temporary disablement and Delete account for permanent removal. - Choose “Deactivate account” if you wish to temporarily disable your Threads account, or select “Delete account” for permanent deletion.
Note that this feature is currently in the early stages of rollout, and Threads typically introduces new features gradually. It may take some time to become available to all users. If you don’t see the new feature in your app yet, please be patient and check back in a couple of days.
