Samsung is introducing “Temporary Cloud Backup” for Galaxy devices using One UI 6, allowing users to store and transfer unlimited photos, videos, and data for 30 days at no cost. Similarly, Apple offers temporary iCloud storage for new iPhones and iPads, granting a 21-day window that can be extended.
How will it work
Providing a complimentary data storage solution for customers during resets or device transfers, along with a 30-day retrieval period, should simplify the process and alleviate anxiety.
Samsung will provide users with the flexibility to restore their data at their convenience, not limited to the initial device setup. Users can upload numerous files to the Samsung Cloud through their Samsung account, with each file not surpassing 100GB in size. Data restoration and transfer are restricted to Wi-Fi within a 30-day timeframe, after which Samsung will delete the data. Nevertheless, the company will issue a warning notification to users a few days before initiating the deletion process.
What is Maintenance Mode
Introduced last year, Maintenance Mode is a privacy feature enabling users to restrict data access during device repairs. Samsung has affirmed that the Temporary Cloud Backup will integrate with Maintenance Mode, enhancing data security for users.
