Discord has declared its intention to close down Clyde, its experimental AI chatbot, by the month’s end. As per a support message, starting from December 1, users will no longer have the ability to summon Clyde in Direct Messages, Group Direct Messages, or server conversations.
Earlier this year, Discord conducted trials of Clyde’s AI capabilities, enabling the chatbot to respond to queries and participate in conversations utilizing OpenAI’s models. Despite its testing being confined, the company had plans to integrate it as a foundational component of its chat and community application.
Clyde is scheduled for deactivation by the month’s end. As of December 1, 2023, users will no longer have the capability to summon Clyde in Direct Messages, Group Direct Messages, or server chats. The support page for Clyde expresses gratitude for user support and feedback, emphasizing ongoing efforts to introduce new features and enhance user experiences.
Discord users have the option to incorporate Clyde, an AI chat integration, into their server. As an experimental feature, Clyde empowers users to explore new information, including facts, tips, and humor. Additionally, it supports interactive activities such as trivia games and offers suggestions for movies, books, and various other subjects. In essence, Clyde provides a platform for users to express themselves and participate in discussions across a range of topics.
The cause for the abrupt discontinuation of Clyde remains uncertain. It’s possible that the chatbot could make a comeback as an exclusive Nitro feature down the line, or Discord may have concluded that integrating an AI chatbot into its service is unnecessary. Presently, the company has not issued an official statement regarding the shutdown of Clyde.
Discord has been exploring diverse AI functionalities, including the introduction of AI-generated conversation summaries. This feature proves particularly valuable for users trying to catch up on discussions they might have missed, especially in servers spanning multiple time zones. Moreover, Discord is establishing itself as a hub for AI developers, providing financial support and resources to assist developers in creating AI applications tailored for the Discord platform.
